I've used quick fixes before and always fallen foul so out with the dash today...
The only way to remove the matrix is by removing the heater box as a full unit, which means removing all of the metal structure that holds the dash, steering column etc, degassing and disconnecting the aircon which I wasn't doing so cut the pipes with the intention of reconnecting with hose to the repaired or a new matrix.
There is a hidden bracket at the back(front) of the heater box that holds the ally pipes to the back(front) of the box renderring it impossible to remove the assembly without removing the entire heater box.
Disconnected the hoses under the bonnet and flushed through with water so that the leakage would just be water and not coolant from the cut pipes.
Got the thing out, no obvious sign of leaks and without anywhere open today to get hose I was unable to pressurise to locate the leaky bit of it.
Dread to think the cost of all this at a garage, would have written the car off. One step closer to throw away vehicles, glad I got out of the trade when I did.
