I wanted to test the tachometer in my Defender TD5, as it has stopped working, easy to check the live and the earth but the rev signal comes from the ecu, so I thought it would be nice to have an oscilloscope to check the signal.
I last used an old cathode ray tube one 20 years ago, there are quite a few old ones on ebay not too expensive.
So got me thinking, would I use it enough to justify having, I service/repair family cars: dads Honda CRV, brothers Suzuki grand vitara and Peugeot Partner, father in laws Dacia plus my defender and would fault find anything that went wrong with my Lexus.
I was thinking more use on modern vehicles with lots of sensors, less so on my old bikes.
Anyone on here think it is worth having one for automotive use?
If so any recommendations? modern ones that can save traces look useful, though get more pricey.
Or just my tool addiction kicking in looking for something I don't really need....
