Afternoon chaps. Sorry to be a bore but the whole gas thing is painful these days. Jut checked out BOC and they want 13 quid a month to rent the bottle which is rather steep in my view. The refills are cheaper but I don’t use enough gas to justify 160 sheets a year on bottle rental alone, especially as next year might bring a new project for which I will need to buy a TIG which means another bottle, so 320 shekels a year. At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.
Anyway, I have a SGS 20 litre 5% co2/argon bottle which I got to do a specific job. I have another thing to do soonish for which I’d rather use the 10 or 15% mix as it’s some 7mm thick universal beam that needs plates welding to the ends. Apparently I can’t exchange my bottle for this, it has to be a refund and re issue which would be fine if I could find the paperwork, which I can’t. Yeah I know, I’m a plonker.
Then there’s the fill pressure of 200 bar against *removed for legal reasons* who do a 300 bar version. I don’t have the patience for a 50l bottle, just a PITA to lug around. So the *removed for legal reasons* one would have 50% more content which saves the bother of changing them, and they deliver which is OK but no good if I run out.
Have I missed any other options? I’m getting to the point of just going with MMA for these UB sections, probably 6013 rods to tack and then 7018 to do the main welds.
All advice gratefully received, I’m slowly going nuts here
Dom.
