Evening chaps
Need some advice in regards to vertical welding on a Land Rover chassis.
I need to fit a new rear 1/4 chassis so this will need vertical laps and an overhead lap weld.
I recently completed a short welding course at Richmond College so can do an acceptable flat lap weld most of the time on 6013 BOC Premium rods.
I've just tried a vertical bead on 2.5mm offcuts as well as a lap joint and it was a bit of a disaster, completely unable to weld a bead with sparks going everywhere and the weld pool just falling off the metal. This was with the BOC Premium 6013's and using 90amps
So the chassis and new rear 1/4 will each around 3mm thickness, which type of rod would people recommend and should I lower the amps for the vertical, raise them or leave the same?
