So a man working for minimum wage is good because he can hang doors and undertake other work for minimum wage earners.
Handymen are the Bain of my life. Work for peanuts and leave a crap job behind
Edit
130 a day.
Cheap as chips
Indeed. I can't push much higher than I am as work drops off.Its all well and good to say "charge more" but, as said earlier, generally, in a market, the individual's price (rather than the group's price) is not based on cost, but more what they think they can get away with.
If that figure is too close to their costs, they will, ultimately, leave the market.
The group's price is based more closely on costs and / or barriers to entry.

Unfortunately, yes... My in-laws place that we moved them out of two years ago (housing association - > housing association) had only a few internal doors left. No money to pay a tradesman to re-hang them. I'm unsure why they were missing, the mystery of in-lawsLook at things from the other side, if you are old, infirm or just don't earn enough money to be able to afford someone like you then what's the alternative, sit in a house with the doors hanging off??

They haven't got a pot to **** in, living benefit payment to benefit payment and always on the last £5 of electric. Doesn't bother them though, it's just the way it's always been for them. That's a sad situation to be in isn't it.
I'm friends with a retired guy in the next village to me, when he moved there he put an ad in the local church newsletter, offering such services, didn't get a call for like 4 months, then an old lady asked for an hand rail to be put. He said that he only charged her a fiver because it were such a quick job, anyhow he thinks that she must have spread the word because the phone hasn't stopped ringing since. Lol
He really started the 'business' for something to do/help people out, he were charging by the job but switched to £10 per hour just to make things easier.
I think the chap in the video is just throwing out some "realistic" numbers and my takeaway was that "it does add up doesn't it!"
Remembering this example is for a woodworking shop in Wales, it's not going to be that applicable to a weldor (!) in Leeds.
It has prompted me to sit down and have a proper think about budgeting anyway...

Well, they had 4 kids and didn't work much, they've only got themselves to blame I guess Bless them...There's always someone worse off than yourself I guess, at least they have a roof over their heads etc,...still don't seem right for modern day Britain hey.
Equipment/workshop, consumables, travel and labour I know a guy that itemises all these on his invoices and it makes his daywork rate seem very reasonable. Creative invoicing can be key to a businesses success, all too often the small things are overlooked or not charged out because everyone is too busy flapping around.

Likewise.I break my invoices down too, as some clients look straight at the final figure and curse that it is far too expensive. With it broken down they can see exactly what has been used (materials and consumables) and how many hours that have been booked. I am not the cheapest but i know i am also not the dearest in what i do but i make a decent wage from it and i believe being open and honest like this helps when most think you are ripping them off
It's also easier to explain to them when they do grumble but they soon come round. The important thing about it though like others have said is not to under sell yourself just to keep busyLikewise.
Materials add up quickly
