firstly, I am looking to weld 3" (76.2mm) Stainless pipe work (exhaust system)
ive just bought one of these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-COBEL-PUL...3|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50
and am now looking for the rest of the kit to go with it, gas, gas regulator, filler rods etc.
just had a look and my local gas supplier place sell pure Argon, in i think its 9.4L bottle (bottle volume 1.29m3) at 137bar fill pressure, my question is, whats the volume of gas? is it 9.4L x 137? Im guessing for stainless welding im going to be using 8-10L min?
next question, the metal im welding is 316 stainless 1.5mm wall, what setting should i be using, as a guide on the new welder (see link above)
ive also bought some 3mm thick 316 plate, same question as above, settings for this (as a guide)
Im not a complete novice, when I was doing my engineering degree with the Process plant certificate (add on year course from the ECITB) I did some gas, arc, tig and mig welding, was pretty usefull with the gas and MIG but didnt get much time on the tig, and that was only on ally, not stainless
any tips/hints appreciated
cheers,
Keith
