Ever since we bought our house some 14 years ago, there has been a huge conker tree at the foot of the garden, with beautiful blossom all summer. It cleaned our air, gave us shade from the sun in summer, kept noise down from the road behind and generally looked wonderful for half the year.
Yesterday a couple of guys turned up and cut it all down, bit by bit, and there is just a huge space left now.
It was rotten to the core, the branches just crumbled when picked up.
The small tree in the wooden square is one I planted earlier this year, a Prunus Royal Brunei. One life ends, one life begins.
