Morning, I'm considering in splashing out on a good quality air fed welding helmet as I'm suffering badly with sinus issues these days and any dust or fumes can leave me whimpering in the corner for a good three days if I'm not careful. Plus we're heading into tantrum season- nothing winds me up quicker than misting up googles/ hood!
Sooo, as I want something for grinding and welding, my work has me swapping between the two a lot, I was wondering whether the flip up air fed helmets, clear visor with welding mask that drops down in front, are practical?
My concern is that dust and sparks are going to be going between the clear visor and the auto welding lens, rapidly reducing that vision euphoria when you put on fresh cover lenses.
My alternative thought is something like an optrel crystal that is clear enough to grind though.
I currently use a weldability phantom extreme which has been/is a very good mask and I can see though that to grind, but only in good light levels and it has no PAPR.
Any of you fellas have experience of the flip up type? Looking at the optrel/ speedglas type of thing.
Ed.
