Meant to post this yesterday, but forgot.
I was in Debenhams yesterday and spotted a pair of casual trousers in exactly my size, reduced to £20 from I forget what. Just the job if/when I need to attend clinics etc.
So I took them to the "Please Pay Here" desk [why are they always about a mile from where you've made your selection . (I do know, it's so that you get a chance to pass all the other displays and might just make just a another choice en route, but we're all wise to that one...aren't we? They call it marketing....)].
Anyway, having made it there further 'unburdened' the dialogue went as follows:
Her: Do you need a back for those?
Me: No thanks, I'll get them in here [holding up a very sturdy BMW carrier bag I got a few years back when I ordered/bought some parts]
Her: OK,sir.....Do you have a Debenhams loyalty card?
Me: No
Her: [Producing a form] If you'd like to apply for one today, I can allow a further 20% off your purchase today [big smile]
Me: No, thanks
Her: Oh.....[Replacing said form back in the under-counter drawer] Will you be paying with cash or card, Sir?
Me: Card
She then rummaged back in the drawer and started scanning and punching buttons on her till
Her: That'll be £16.00 for you today, Sir
Me: Many thanks
Trousers safely packed in the bag, I turned to leave......
Her: Can I get an email address?
Me: No
So, what was all that about? I Know the reason for asking for the email thingy, that's obvious and has been discussed elsewhere here recently, they're all at it - but extra discount out of the blue.....
I'm starting to sound like @The_Yellow_Ardvark when it comes to bargains.....
As our 'Murican cousins'd say "Go figure" - it's obvious computer "does the math"
