I have a good sized double garage with an apex (A-Frame) tiled roof. At present here is no ceiling and consequently a large open space above the rafters. This leads to a number of problems. In the winter I believe this makes the garage much colder than it needs to be because there is no loft insulation as you would normally have above the ceiling. It is also home to a large number of spiders which crap over everything. I am also concerned about smoke / fumes accumulating in this void.
So, I have been thinking about possible ways to implement a ceiling.
1. Use conventional plaster board, but there is no way it could be plastered over as there is just too much stuff in the garage.
So can plaster board just be left as is, or is there some other less messy finish that could be applied?
2. Thin plywood or mdf screwed to the rafters as a substitute for plasterboard?
3. Cellotex type insulation board either screwed under rafters or laid form above?
4. Heavy duty polythene sheet stapled to rafters?
These are the first few that have come to mind. Any thoughts/ ideas would be most welcome.
