Anyone seen this happen?
It’s my Mums, one of these downdraught types which raise up out of the worktop.
The pan she had on the hob had been removed a few minutes prior, the hob was cold but extractor still running. She turned her back and there was a big bang and glass everywhere. If she’d been cooking at the hob she would almost certainly have been injured.
She reckons it was either fully down or on its way down when it happened.
She cleans it carefully with a soft cloth, nothing abrasive. There is potential for something to get caught under the glass lip (bad design IMO), but she’s really tidy and I don’t imagine there was so much as a crumb.
The only thing I can see wrong with the installation is the exhaust has been taken under the cabinets with rectangular ducting, and the cross sectional area is less than the minimum stated on the side of the fan - but I can’t see how that would be the cause, and the fan and all controls actually still work.
I’ve seen this happen with oven doors before, is it common? Since it’s out of warranty is there any point in taking this up with the manufacturer, or will they just brush it off as transit damage / impact etc?
