A cordless bandsaw does look fun to be fair...
Agree; have considered buying one, but the throat on them seems to be very small, are they that much better than a grinder or cold chop saw?
£45 on Steel Express so pretty good if you were looking for it, maybe a bit much just on the off chance you need a big chunk.I went there yesterday to pickup a length of 30mm and 40mm box for a welding trolley and few other jobs I want to do, noticed he had a chunk of 80mm dia bar about 10" long outside the door, looked like it was scrap, turns out it was EN24T and yes it was an offcut but wanted £30 for it. No idea what the going rate is but seemed a little steep for an offcut he was gonna scrap
I've thought about buying a drop side van for picking up steel and moving things around easier, not sure if that's the way to go, as they only have 10'-13' beds - topic for another thread.
Don't know about others but most Sprinters are 14'. I bought one for exactly that but the insurance is the killer.
For loading long stuff you either load it at an angle sticking up over the cab on the headache rack or drop the tailgate and have it hanging out the back.
Now I'm the other end of the country I can tell you a good place for thick plates, box and rectangular - usually free though. Suspect I know where you're going dump divingI am certainly no machinist I dump dive for all my rounds, I get all my short lengths of solid out of the skip at the hydraulics shop down the road. Basically help my self, typical spend is between £20-50 and there will be a lot of it.
That’s how I get a lot of my stock.
Only just seen this http://www.actonbrightsteel.co.uk/ my go-to supplier for anything special.

Anyone know what a hydraulic ram is made of? Certainly cuts nice on the bandsaw, but I’ve not tried to machine any yet.
Our machine's ram rods are induction hardened so some kind of hardenable steel.
I'd sure like to have a skip like that near me. It's perfect stuff for making gears.
