This is interesting , because I'm looking around for a plasma cutter and I've found BMW ish one on eBay but draper sell one similar to but with different connectionsI bought a Draper "Expert" plasma.
It worked well enough on thin stuff until it sh1t itself after, at most, 1hr trigger time.
The main board had fried and Draper wanted £180 for it .
@bwservices gave me a link to a new board for £25 on ebay but I haven't got around to changing it out yet.
Seems similar to the cut 50 the and same chance of getting a good one, or not.
Hi my cheap Draper Plasma just let the magic smoke out.
It was working fine but the last time I used it it went bang, stopped working and the screen went blank.
The fan was still running so it was getting power.

I turned it off, left it for a while and took the cover off.

Pretty obvious where the magic smoke came from

Is it worth trying to fix it?
I am able to remove the daughter board and change components but is this the issue or is it something more serious and this is just a result of a deeper problem?
I have a decent meter etc but fault finding inverter electronics are not my strong point.
If its just a few resistors, diodes and caps I can cope with that.
Any ideas?
Knipex is the maker of choice - I have drawers full of side cutters - pliers - striper's - circlip pliers - the list is endless.
Apart from lots of sets - of Lindstrome smaller cutters and pliers for electronic work - I only buy Knipex.
I rate the "expert" socket sets and the general hand tools. More than good enough for most jobs, before Macess went pop they would have the expert range on promo so I would fill my boots with it. £25 for the mm/af 3/8" drive socket set and £40 for the mm/af 1/2" set, more than good enough for a mobile set .
Bob
Had and used this set for over ten years with no issues and it takes a battering, the cases are also very good

I have a few different Knipex pliers (the ‘pliers wrench’ is really good) and can’t fault them at all. I do prefer NWS though, not sure why I think it’s just personal preference as both are top quality.
I only have one Draper Expert product, a ‘go through’ socket set which I’ve had for well over ten years and have abused regularly, usually because nothing else to hand would get to an awkward nut or bolt. I’ve expected either the ratchet or a socket to go pop countless times and they never have so to me it’s proven to be decent gear. There’s probably some rubbish in the range but I can only speak as I find!
