I'm thinking of changing my setup, now I'll hopefully have two welders to accommodate rather unexpectedly and I am considering building a cart for my welders. As I already have a gas trolley and I want to keep the space I take up to a minimum, I think I'll just have something to house the welders and leads, and keep the gas separate.
As I'm new to fabricating; would someone mind giving me some pointers on how I should go about determining what materials are appropriate to use for this project, so I'm not building something that will struggle to hold what it needs to, and equally that I'm not wasting money dramatically over building something.
Are there any guidelines or rules on determining the dimensions of materials which are required to hold up x amount of weight?
My current welder weighs 33kg without wire, and the new one I hope to get soon weighs 20kg without wire, between the two welders I am likely to have 20kg of wire in them at anyone time, and I'll no doubt hang some extra leads, maybe a few magnets, etc on the cart too... so at a guess I'd say the total build should be built to hold 80kg, I expect to use two shelves, one as low as possible for the heavier welder, one above that for the new welder and then sheet material to act as a roof/protection for the uppermost welder and to serve as a shelf for small light items.
I don't have any tube bending equipment, so I would probably gravitate towards either angle or rectangular or square box section.
Any advice on material selection or other design elements would be very much appreciated.
Thanks all.
