Right guys.
I have to fit some stainless steel cobwebs into giant concrete pipes. The webs are in effect a mesh to stop idiots pushing their children through said pipes. the pipes are going to be view points into a visitor centre.
The pipes are concrete, usually used as water mains and are 2.1m in internal diameter with 100mm thick walls. Does anybody have any idea how hard this concrete is? and what fixings would you reccomend? What type of drill? will it be too hard for a normal SDS or hammer drill?
My local fasteners shop (forest fasteners in Mitcheldean, a great place for fasteners, bolts etc etc) reccomend some gurt big self tapping screw thingys, that go straight into the concrete.I have heard them referred to as 'Thunder Bolts' elsewhere. The look pretty good, but what if they shear off as they go in? I thought about expansion bolts but have never used them.
To make things more complicated I want to be able to drill into the concrete with the webs in situ, ie drill the first two holes, then install the webs loosely and drill the rest of the holes while they are fitted.
Two of the webs go onto the end of the tubes like the one in this photo, the other two go into the middle of the tubes.
Cheers all, Chunko'.
