More years ago than I care to admit to, you could obtain a steam cleaner chemical/degreaser that when used on bright aluminium it would turn a dark grey almost black.
I'm after this effect on some aluminium covers I've made for work, so today I called Auto Smart, we tried all their products the only effect we could get was a milky colour, I suspect the chemical is probably now taboo according to H&S as to corrosive.
Does anybody have any idea which chemical it was just in case its still available or is any other chemical that will turn aluminium oxides dark grey or black?
