For vw my mate has always used Engle cams
That looks like a deep pocket crank.. I used to like making A35 and Moggy 1000s go a bit faster so i used midget 1000 10CC engines with the 2" cranks, nothing crazy but with a LCB exhaust and a mild cam they went well and were reliable for every day use.taking forever seems to be a "thing" with camshaft people where new masters need making to do the grind. A mate of mine who has a cam grinding machine has had one of mine for six months now....
I have learnt the hard way that finding a crank that Magnafluxes OK before it goes in, doesn't mean that it won't be cracked and/or fail after being run to 7000+ for a while. leading to this solution...

I had this made by a company in Slough, it's from EN40 billet and Nitrided. The only "off the peg" billet cranks with the "wide journal" A35 etc. main bearings are made in USA (they race 948 Sprites in SCCA racing "over there") not such a decent material though, and with shipping, customs duty etc. would have been quite a lot dearer by the time it arrived on my doorstep.
That's interesting about the plastic metal making an OK repair, mine was on the port divider too. Was a b***er to repair with braze, so much heat needed, had my neighbour holding a propane roofing torch under the pre-heated head while I used the biggest nozzle I had on the OA set..
That should read midget "1100" 10CC engines... my old brain ain't what it used to be.That looks like a deep pocket crank.. I have a stash of spares in a box i had years ago with -10 and -20 new old stock main shells, but i have 2 mg 1100 10CC engines i want to rebuild at some point so they should be useful .I knew what you meant, rebuilt a 10CC prefix 2" main 1098 motor some years ago, even back then, the Copper/Lead main shells for those motors were hard to find.
I think all the 1098 type engine like in a moggy are 1 1/2" mains but the midget a series 1098 was given a bit more beef later on and i think the the 1098 GC was 1 3/4" mains and the 1098 CC was 2", The engine all look pretty much the same at first glance though.Mg1100? They weren't any different in bearing sizes to Austin 1100s?
There were some Ausi engines which used shortish stroke 2 inch mains which fitted in the 1300 block, but all the 1100s were the same (I think).
Please tell me if I'm wrong
Yes i think i am randomly calling the midget the mg1100, i do mean all the inline version lolBut they are all inline, and you have all that correct - the mg1100 was transverse - these were all the same.
Ah, now I see, you were calling the midget 1100 an MG1100, now I understand, ignore me.
