Thought I’d do some reviews of some of the tools I used as I always read reviews before buying something but don’t often “give back”.
First up this portable “drill press”. I wanted to use something like it as all the steel posts were pre drilled but the wooden joists had to be marked and drilled in place.
I think it did a good job. It was reasonably “tight” in its action and it did make straight holes easier. Only issue was the chuck came loose early on and it took me a while to figure out it was a LH thread.....I guess I could see a use for it in the future but a better design might be 3 legs to make it a bit more stable. Oh and when you are attaching the hand drill you really need to either take the battery off or turn the drill off due to where the chuck sits on the spindle between the legs. Ask me how I know .....
Next was a Milwaukee drill and impact set. Brilliant tools. Using stainless screws they are really easy to strip the heads out. The impact driver seemed to stop this and I wouldn’t use a drill driver on them again.
The drill itself was pretty good although the chuck did “lock up” a couple of times when I was changing bits. Hoping it doesn’t get worse.
Finally the mitre saw. I bought this especially for the Job and it was fantastic out the box. Perfectly square cuts and I needed 45-48 ish angles in both horizontal and vertical planes and it was really easy and accurate to set. Only negative comment is the laser is lined up to one side of the blade (can’t remember which as I type this) so depending which end of the board you are keeping, it can come out 3mm short. I wonder if they could have 2 lasers depending which way you are cutting.
