I had occasion to send a lengthy but relatively light parcel (1.4 metre x 7 cm roll x 2.7kg) last week. This was done through one of those parcel comparison sites & eventually delivered by a major national carrier. To be honest the cardboard roll packaging made up the bulk of the weight & I carefully weighed it several times with luggage scales to ensure the weight was right. Because the parcel was over one metre long I was surcharged £4.85.
Today I received an email from the comparison site saying they had been surcharged £1.35 + a £2.50 admin fee because the national carrier had deemed the weight to be 3 Kgs on their estimation based on volumetric weight.
Fortunately the comparison site waived the additional fee but warned they would have to pass on the fee if any discrepancy occurred with future postings.
What sort of gobbledygook is this? Another technical scam to offer a low price & make it up by other means. 0.3 kg difference seems to be a bit petty.
