Over the next couple of years I have a few motorbikes in need of painting/restoration. I have only ever used rattle cans before, and had reasonable results, however as I have so much to paint I am thinking about getting a spray gun and doing it properly. I all ready have a compressor (just a 50L 3hp cheap one) but hopefully it should do the job.
I was wondering what people would recommend for a reasonable gun that is not overly expensive. Also what paints would be best? I am thinking possibly epoxy for the clear coat as I would like a durable finish that can withstand spilt petrol without the need for an air fed mask. However not sure what to use for primer of colour coats. For the ZX7R it will probably be RS Bike Paints paint so that it is colour matched. For the rest of the bikes I am not tied to matching an existing colour so can pick what I like the look of.
In terms of what will get painted there will be a couple of sets of fibreglass race fairings, some ABS fairings, steel petrol tanks, steel frames and probably engine cases as well.
Again I'm not sure if I would require different products for the different materials being painted, or if there is a system that will work across the whole range.
Any help and advice people can offer would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
