Hi guys, newbie here.
After much youtube watching I've got myself setup, practicing aluminium TIG welding. I am having some reasonable success with running a bead of filler material on some aluminium plate. It's not the prettiest, but I feel like I've got some control over it (see bottom bead in pic below - ignore the mess above from previous cockups!)
The issue I have is the first time I fire it up it works fine, but when I come back and try again the arc won't strike. The electrode has darkened and I find I have to do a quick re-grind to take the surface back to shiney before it'll work again.
I'd have thought it was some sort of contamination, but the weld itself is reasonably clean and I'm being generous with the argon flow. Any ideas?!
I include a picture of the electrode and machine (as the settings were) below.
