Owners shouldn't be allowed to divorce themselves from it, I have got into some pretty heated discussions with EV owners insisting their car is "green" its only as green as the energy you put in it and you cannot get away from that. The same goes for battery production. EV owners should be taxed just as hard as ICE owners and it ploughed into cleaner more sustainable energy production. The tax should also relate to the sustainability of the cars manufacture and recyclability including battery end to end life.
My own car is a hybrid, I have owned it for 5 years,
I never bought it in order to be smug or appear green,
No car is green,
I can’t believe that a Land Rover is greener though, there’s very little in the way of battery’s in a Prius, in effect a Prius is only a waste energy collector, it collects waste energy from braking, or rolling down a hill, or when the engine is running but not driving the wheels, a bit like the KERS system on F1 cars,
But I bought my Auris, because I wanted a petrol automatic car, that was cheap to tax and cheap on fuel, without cambelt DPF and duel mass clutch, and that’s what I got, it’s currently doing 52mpg it replaced a car that averaged 32mpg,
There is lots of fake news surrounding EV’s, comparing it to ICE, then saying they are charged up using coal powerstations, which may or may not be true, but people forget the environmental impact of dragging crude oil out of the ground, or the energy produced just to refine oil,
And at least we are then less reliant on places like Saudi for oil production, and supply
I would be happy to own a EV with a 250mile plus range, as long as it was priced equivalent to a ICE car, it would work for me then,
If it doesn’t work for you, then don’t buy them, but be happy for others to buy them,
If you can charge them for free off your roof, using solar panels even better,
I have no doubt that the government will get around to taxing by the mile, but that won’t just effect EV’s all vehicles EV or ICE will be taxed, and they won’t reduce the tax on fuel either,
I am sure we are only a generation off EV vehicles which will meet my criteria, and that vans and Other vehicles are on the drawing board, to solve the emission costs in city’s,
If they don’t suit you, or you don’t like them, then don’t buy them, simple as that, no need to denigrate them.
