The renewal came through for car breakdown cover and it had gone up. I called them out once in last 5 years for a duff battery while out and about . Decided to look on a comparison site. Lots of results, many with strings like an excess and/or limit to how many times you can call them out. Have never called for help more than once in same year, but policy excess is a definite no no for me on breakdown cover-it can be more than 50% of premium with some of them. I tolerate it on motor insurance.
The main thing though is that I had never heard of most of them. Thinking they could take payment and no longer be around if/when you need assistance.
I found a company that was a bit cheaper than my renewal price and with no excess or limit to number of call outs. It is probably well known to many, but I had never heard of it-It is called Auto National.
I always go for the recovery level of cover-uk only. If it has to be repaired at a garage I prefer it to go to a garage of my choice, not left at the mercy of a place that could charge what they wanted due to the circumstances of being stranded.
