Hi, I'm very new to tig welding, and am trying to teach myself with the help of videos and such. But right out of the box, once I got my welder set up, I've been encountering the same problem.
The tungsten electrode (red) keeps melting. Every time I sharpen it, I pop it back in and slowly work my way up the amps from 5 to about 25. Just passed the 20 mark, the sharp tip melts back into a blob. I have yet to ever form a weld pool with TIG.
I've tried two diameters of electrode, and it doesn't matter what kind of material I'm trying to use. I'm in 2T, pulse off, and my machine is DC only. And I'm sharpening the tip in the direction of electrical flow.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Sean Teegan.
