That sounds like the "Ferrodo" set I bought.I can confirm the story of the grass in the friction material. I had a set analysed because you could scrape the material off with your fingernail. They consisted of compressed grass and fibre and would have resulted in metal to metal as soon as they were applied.
I've come across factory brake linings do this, mainly french stuff. On one of our French holidays in 2015,a rear shoe slipped its lining off,on examination of the other side, that too was peeling,I had no recourse as they were on the camper when purchased, just another example of the crap on the market the good that came out was that I met a lot of friendly folks that included the loan of a hoist and brake drum puller, always find the French go out of their way to help.
I had a clutch master cylinder fail on my old SWB SIIA Land Rover on the way to Spain (towing a car transporter). It was a new genuine part fitted just before the trip but I later found it was worn pedal pivot caused the piston to move in an upward motion and damaging the bore. I managed to limp to a supermarket where the duff part was removed. It was a French holiday so nowhere open and a small town anyway. After a while the Police turned up and were very helpful. They rang around (this was pre mobile era) and found we could get a train to Spain, and a Santanna dealer, easier and quicker than awaiting a part to come from UK. Then they had an idea and contacted the local fire station. Fire chaps came out and we piled into their vehicle with the duff cylinder back to the station. There they bored the cylinder out on a WWI British lathe and fitted a seal from the numerous spares they held before taking us back to the supermarket. It was like a party with everybody being helpful and enjoying the event Anyway managed to do around 3000 more miles on the repaired cylinder before a replacement was sourced and fitted back in UK.always find the French go out of their way to help.
They also tend to stock a "cheap" brand that will give a reasonable service life.

I never had any trouble with Roughtrax.I would have thought they were better than this
They were the parts sent so I assumed they were right only after measurements did I see they were smallerIf they were the wrong size they might not be faulty, just not for your vehicle.
