I'm no boy racer but I don't exactly hang around. Yes, it's been a nice change going back to petrol to be honest, as refined as modern diesel engines are you still get that low frequency rumble - it's not until it's suddenly not there you realise it.So how is that different to an Audi A5 2L turbo? I have never seen a petrol engine that good on fuel - are you sure they haven't given you a hybrid by mistake?
My mate has a BMW hybrid and that is what he gets.
I love petrol engines - quicker to warm up - smoother - rev much better - but never much good on fuel for me.
I don't even get that out of my diesel Insignia - usually get around 39mpg but the newest one is giving me 36mpg. I do have a lead foot though and drive very challenging roads. Tight 2nd gear up hill bends etc.
I will have to blag one of those BMWs for a week and give it a try - would love to go back to petrol.

My mate who had a 4 series with a diesel engine commented how quiet mine was, he thought it was a hybrid when we pulled away (I can assure you it's not)
The big news is I have just sold my old jag...
Well ok, perhaps it isn't big news... But..
I am wondering whether to go diesel again.
Looking at the 3.0d again from jag - just a newer version , but really not sure about diesel anymore - yes cheaper to run (circ 11p pm rather than ~14p pm) but not knowing what is in the pipeline re. the government and hatred of diesel - would it have any resale value in 5-8 years time?
The thing is jaguar have dropped all the large petrol engines and now only offer diesel above ~2 litres or so.
Anyone else undecided like this/me?
It's a 520i SE which is the base model in the "new" 5 series, but it's got everything I needed - the next model up(M Sport) adds bigger wheels and some styling changes but I preferred this one - the ride on smaller wheels is far better. Mine has LED lights, they are very good but I think there is an upgrade to adaptive lights, however I've not tried them.Which model do you have? I might be tempted to try to blag one as my next hire car - they let me pick to a certain extent.
And is it auto or manual?
One other essential - LED matrix headlights - could never go back to normal.
Yes it is the adaptive lights I have. They are a game changer really are. It's a 520i SE which is the base model in the "new" 5 series, but it's got everything I needed - the next model up(M Sport) adds bigger wheels and some styling changes but I preferred this one - the ride on smaller wheels is far better. It's auto, you don't get the choice of manual any more- 8 speed with a paddle shift. The diesel model is actually quicker (very marginally, as in a fraction of a second to 60) but I wouldn't change back.
Being RWD it was an absolute hoot in the recent snow...
225 width - I had to go out and check. My colleague had wide low profile tyres on his previous insignia company car and they made the ride horrid - for no discernible benefit other than looks. Since he gave me a lift in that I’ve decided to opt for comfortYes it is the adaptive lights I have. They are a game changer really are.
What width tyres you on? I don't care about diameter. It is the width that counts.
Seriously with economy like that why are people looking at hybrids?
Just swapped my X358 SV8 for an X260 250PS I4 Estate.
The interior is very low rent - acres of bare metal on the dash, hideous clashing planes at the door/dash intersection. Ugly great screen in the middle without a nice walnut cover for when not in use. But it retains the usual dreadful ergonomics in true Jaguar style.
I've got to ask, if you don't like it, why did you buy it?
Tight 2nd gear up hill bends etc.
Reminds me of the Applecross Road!
Not undecided at all. Just bought a 180PS AWD XE. Got all the power and economy you could need. If you really want more power and are prepared to compromise a little on fuel consumption then the 240PS (a twin turbo version of the same 2.0 litre Ingenium Diesel engine) should be right up your street.
Go drive a couple!
As for resale value, are you buying new or used?
I know, they do a petrol 2litre that does 300ps
I had to Google PS [originally a German measurement?] - seems there's not a lot of difference from BHP

For those who might not be familiar with the Pass of the Cattle [Bealach na Ba]
Pointless having a fast car these days, the roads are full of camper vans and what I term 45 20s, the sit at 4, till a bend then down to 20, pull out to pass on a suitable straight, they speed up,
