Might be off by a mile here,.....
But can it not be electroplated rather than hot dipped?? Wouldnt have problems with distortion then
View attachment 82590 Had my Land Rover bulkhead hot dipped, you can see a few ripples but it bolted straight back onto the jig I made for welding it on, now its painted and installed you would be hard pressed to see any distortion.
Could you, or anyone else, tell me what I should be doing to get a bulkhead galvanised (dipped with frame? Dipped with bolts in all the threads? Etc?)
Also what sort of money I should be
expecting as a single job?
Thank you.

Does anyone know of any independant galvanisers in the south west?
Cheers

Grease will mostly be removed by the acid bath generally a waste of time
never had any issues with it not working in the threaded holes we had in items for galvanising - mostly m12 threads, so the hole size may come into play as to whether it works or not.
Yes but the grease shouldn't have the slightest bearing on the matter and galv plants could take a dim view of you sending stuff contaminated
The pre- bath is meant to remove oils etc
Just got back from picking up a replacement bulkhead.
Needs a couple of repairs (my old one was too far gone to be worth bothering with) and then I'll go over to the plant in Crediton for a chat.
Afternoon all
I am considering having some galvanising done, but looking for some advice on how much distortion I am likely to encounter, before proceeding.
The bits I have are Land Rover door frames and sill/B post/C post assemblies. Both are made of pressed steel channels and box section. Both are fairly thin, I would guess 1.2mm for the door frames, 1.5 on the sill assemblies.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Andrew
how did you seal the seams to stop water ingress ,allways wondered ?View attachment 82590 Had my Land Rover bulkhead hot dipped, you can see a few ripples but it bolted straight back onto the jig I made for welding it on, now its painted and installed you would be hard pressed to see any distortion.
I must say from the time wedge took such a big slice of the market here quality has been slipping back
Or perfectly preserved! His clothes were full of holes, he has probably corroded away by now!
