B/W laser printers are generally very reliable, but colour laser models seem to give more problems.
Most of my printing is done on a B/W multi-function Lexmark (25k pages in 7 years, and still going well), but I also have a Canon LBP5000 colour laser printer (re-branded HP2600) that gave very good quality output when new, even on photos. After about 5 years it started to suffer from slight colour banding, which was NOT cured by replacing the expensive toner cartridges. Now it has developed a registration fault, with black being about 3mm offset from the other colours, and again this was NOT cured by fitting a new (genuine Canon) toner cartridge. Total page count still only 1500. Web sites reveal that lots of other folk have experienced the same problems with this model.
Think I might replace the Canon with a fairly inexpensive inkjet, and run a full colour test page every week in the hope of keeping the nozzles clear.
