Hi
I drove the wife's Peugeot 306 home with a snapped clutch cable, since fit a new cable but we now how a tapping noise that is speed related, it gets worse on the overrun & virtually goes if you knock the box into neutral.
My first thoughts are I've damaged something in the gearbox when I drove it home with no clutch (start in 1st and try not to crunch the changes too much)
I have a spare Pug 306 that's a 1.8 petrol and as far as I can tell the code on the gearbox is "20CH55", I've searched the internet but can't find a match but it looks very similar to the box in the wife's car.
Her car is a 2 litre HDI D-turbo, that gearbox code is "20TD95", that matches with what I can find on the internet as the right box for the car.
So is the box from the 1.8 petrol car suitable for the 2.0 diesel ? or am I gonna have to get the correct box from a scrapyard ?
Thanks as always.
