Hi guys,
You might be able to offer some advice. I've been making dashboards for Triumph cars, theyre made from 12mm birch plywood and up to now have been supplied unfinished for the customer to add their own veneer etc.
I'm dipping my toes into veneering and the pnly thing I've to master is the finishing. I've been recommended this....
I told the guy in the paint shop I need something I can lay on multiple coats within a day and cut it back like glass! Get it on quick, finish it quick and get it out the door. He recommended the 2K acrylic laquer. Now, I'll by scraping on, against the grain, a couple of layers of epoxy resin to fill the pores of the wood first, flatting that back then laying on the lacquer.
To my question; originally the rear of the dash panels, and the cutout for dials etc would have been painted in a brown paint to seal the panel and to avoid a contrast between a dark walnut face and lighter birch ply. Like so...
I'm looking for something cheap and cheerful for blasting on the rear of the dashes but what type of paint would be compatible with a 2k lacquer? Not that I'll necessarily be spraying over the brown but inevitably some of the lacquer will get on it. Off the shelf acrylic paint?
Thanks.
