Seeking advice please on repairing the cast speedo housing in the pictures.
Pic 1 for overall size/view.
Pic 2 showing the fracture where the clamp style lug has broken off and needs to be welded back together.
There is a steel sleeve hidden well down the machined hole.
now I need some advice as to how to proceed.
I was proposing.......
1. Clean well with solvent brass brush
2. V grouve the joint area
3. Make up a mandrell to go into the hole to support the part and hopefully to prevent weld getting into the machined hole.
4. Set welder up.
5. Select correct rods
6. Pre heat? (what temp)
7. Dive in.
Where I need help is the welder set up (EWM Tetrix), Tungsten size and rod flavour ( I have 5356 and 4043 but happy to get others?).
The casting is a speedo housing from an older Mercedes if that helps.
The weld will need to be a little flexible so original clamp type bolt can be used.
My skill level is far from expert!
Advice would be welcome.
