Hi, I made a rocket stove for outdoor cooking. First I had a grate built in but it smoked too much. It is of the k tube design in 4" box. I cut the grate out to improve the airflow. I have a door on the fuel shute and a butterfly on the air intake. It smokes a little still but i cant get the flames shooting out the top like some on youtbube. Whats wrong?
Its based on an open door design unless you have secondy air below then you wont get a high flame other way is door open so it has a full flow of air through it
HOwever too many sticks you block off the air flow from the main door area
Build them and if you look I advised the secondary air to be used
YOu can by placing a hole in the bottom or just by cracking the ash pan door open a little
Thanks gaz1.
I have the air coming in underneath when the fuel door is shut. Your right about too many sticks. It does block the air from coming from underneath.
The design i used is very common on you tube and seems to work very well...mine doesnt!!!
Its ok but not as good as others. It definitely works better with only a little fuel and smaller section sticks...like 1/2".
If I close the top door and use only air from the bottom its like a volcano spitting ash and embers out of the top...no flames though. I was thinking of drilling a couple of holes in the door as when i crack it open a little the ashes and embers stop.
YOurS is built on the corner most are infront or at riser tube practise with those things but learn to cross your wood as you build it as much as refill it
I made some mods today. I drille a half inch hole in
the feed tube door. This lets a little air to the top all the time when the door is closed. This has stopped the ash emissions from the top. Ive also welded on some 10mm bars 25mm apart across the bottom where the sticks sit. These are centred 50mm high. Air from the bottom now gets under the sticks and there is very little ash build up. The original grate i made was supposed to do this but the slots were too narrow and restricted the air too much.
So quite happy with it now!
