Hi All,
I'm in the market for my first mig welder. I have three companies which Im considering products from:
Lincoln, Hobart, Forney- also has a local office which is nice.
I have very Little welding experience, but my options are driven by Price and need of use which is very little, but a few upgrades I want to tackle need welding, and rental/ hiring someone isnt cost effective. Mainly ide be welding on jeep upgrades or potentially patching sheet metal, perhaps the heaviest thing ive seen on a part site was 5/16" thick steel and i Doubt thats common for use, nor do i think ide be using such, most common is 1/4".
My question for those on here is what would be better for me to look into. 120V units, or a 220V unit. I like the Idea of 220v for ease of welding something thicker, ide need to add an outlet.
Cost is not something I want to cheap on by these brands, but rather ide like a good tool that will do the work without complaint or at least very little. each company makes a unit in roughly the same price point for either input power, so I rely on you all who may have used these for advice!
at the moment it looks like i can stay under 800$ on a welder, I am looking for used items on craiglist, but im ok buying a new good machine to.
thank you for your help.
