About a month ago the key for my Sprinter snapped near the fob. Fortunately I had a spare. Looking at getting a new one it needs to be chipped, so being a tight wad, I got an ordinary key cut, removed the remnant of the key from the fob and tried holding the two together in the ignition, but the key won't even turn! It does open all the other doors, so I assume it's the immobiliser/alarm?
Does the chip have to be in a specific alignment with the ignition barrel or could it be mechanical and teh cutting of the key (but it opens every other door!)?
Regards
Peter
