Thanks for the recommendation the more I view the easier my choice I hopeIf you do go for an arc welder, I can recommend this generic inverter beastie from Amazon:
https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum...eapie-sungold-200a-inverter-arc-welder.79423/
You are trying to make a decision on something you know nothing about
it does help to have a few pointers in what your wanting to choose with mig or arc
its handy to be shown how with both systems
A chap over the road has mig and done a bit of welding on my trailer but it seems that he has all the gear but no idea, he has an old arc also, perhaps he'll let me have a play around
Dave
Whereabouts in Zummerzet are you?
There’s a fair few of us on here from the West Country.
I'm also VERY close to Frome-ish......
Dave,
I'm not far from Frome-ish - about 20 mins west down the A361, turning off near Cranmore - You can always drop by and have a go at either process (mig and/or arc) here.
Send a PM if you like - I should be able to find the time, and you'll have an idea whether you love it or hate it.
If you have something bring-able that needs welding, maybe you could try them on that - otherwise I'd have whatever is needed.
All the Best,
CJ
Thanks for that great offer CJ your a gent, will see how things develop,
Dave
Probibly posting in the wrong place, but anyhoo. Thinfourth posted that he had a bucket of scrap metal to be uplifted. I volunteered to take it off his hands, as me and my camper were heading up North on a wee holiday.
Well, I can only say that this forum member is an absolute star. I arrived expecting to take away a bucket of scrap metal to practicing welding on. Instead, he dug out a welding helmet, and very, very patiently took me through the stages of properly using a mig welder, and a practice on his tig setup. Then when the time came to leave, he gave me some more sheet metal to fill the holes in my 1989 camper.
I have had offers from forum members previously to look over my pitiful welding skills, but didn’t want to ‘intrude’ by taking them up on their offer.
Wrong.... I learned more about welding in that brief time, than my minimal practice time by myself has taught me.
So, many thanks again, thinfourth, especially for your patience, and generosity of giving up your time to a beginner (and tell your wife the eggs are great).
Anyone out there who is offered the chance to be pointed in the right direction by someone with such a wealth of experience, grab it. Can’t wait to get back home and put everything into practice (or remind hubby that he offered to buy me a tig welder for my birthday).
