I'm still checking OEM. I've emailed a prop specialist who I know is quite cheap. I don't mind paying for OEM, but I think the new shafts have a rubber cush drive, which I don't like, and OEM are non serviceable. What is the cost of a new shaft v's new UJ's?
There is a local propshaft/steering reconditioning place and they weld in new UJ's on steering shafts so doable
I have no issue making things like this. I'm building a space framed 4x4 from scratch next year, so will have to do the entire steering system, including making a custom steering rack body which will be the real hard bit. With something like a steering component is it worth risking anything other than oem
Or good second hand parts
Reco-Prop in Luton, as one example, are a company I used to deal with who'd happily machine the old ones out and replace the UJs. When there was enough material, they'd also machine a circlip groove in the yokes to make future replacements easy.
OEM prices were usually ridiculous, making a rebuild a very cost-effective option.
Bailey Morris are superb to deal with too.
Looks like Reco-Prop have failed UJs themselves...Reco-prop phone lines are disconnected, could be out of business. I emailed them.

The place that did the work is http://vibrationfree.co.uk, same place that sorted out the serious vibration issues on my car.
Wouldn't you love to have had an apprenticeship with someone like that? I think he's also a very nice guy, when I was there he had one of those typical retired type tinkerer customers in the premises, the type who comes, takes up an hour of your time each wkeek, and brings you £20 of work every other month and thinks he's doing you a favour. Steve was highly tolerant to the guy.I've used these guys for balancing parts for work and confirm that Steve there knows his stuff. They do quite a bit for F1 teams......
I can't remember. But there's a machinist in the same business estate as my office and he gets the same, he's too nice to say no to people. I tend to have my limits, I'll give people like that 20 min of free help but then I excuse myself telling them I have to deliver a client project (which is always true).Didn't happen to be retired Major or similar did he? Had a very similar experience when I was there!
