So I am in the market for a new head shield, my current head shield is a Speedglas APC auto which still works fine after 25 years but it has a fixed shade of 11. Now days I want to do TIG welding and while the shade 11 is ok when TIG welding aluminium it is a bit dark when welding steel. I am also thinking that the technology might now have moved on and give a better welding vision with a newer shield.
After searching around I am interested in the following so far:
Esab Astrio – 1/1/1/1 optics, 100x60 view, x-mode sensor, around £240
GYS Spaceview – 1/1/1/2 optics, it has a large 100x93 view, around £95
Optrel Vegaview2.5- 1/1/1/2 optics, looks a good shape, improved welding colour, around £248
Viking 3350 – 1/1/1/1 optics, 95x85 view, around £189
I want it mostly for TIG welding steel and aluminium, I am not so interested in grinding modes, I have a clear shield for that purpose.
Interested in hearing people views on these or what others are using and to be recommended as I have not seen any of them in real life yet. I can visit a couple of local welding shops but then you can only really try them on for fit, no actual welding with them. Are the more expensive ones much better than say the GYS Spaceview? My limit is about £250 for a welding head shield.
