I have just done a callout job this evening on a machine fault, 2 hours and haven't found the problem yet. Managed to get the machine working in manual mode so the customer could finish his job but still have to go back tomorrow to fault find.
To my mind it can only be a simple fault that i should of tracked down already and find it hard to justify a large fee, if it takes another few hours tomorrow.
But also its not my fault if the machine has no wireing diagram for the control circuit and half to the numbering tags are missing or inaccessible.
Ah yes, I find that a difficult situation. It's all very well being advised that if your hourly rate is x then you charge however many hours it took by x and that's what it costs them, if it comes to a lot then that's just tough.
The thing is, some jobs just aren't as simple and straightforward as they 'should' be, it doesn't seem right charging full whack when you aren't sure that you figured out the problem and rectified it as well as you perhaps should have.
It's difficult!
