They use little portapacks all the time here. They last longer than mapp or calor torches and get hotter if they decide they need to use silver solder for a joint or something.

I must say, top job, a explosion where the bonnet (hood) is found up a tree, thats certainly not doing things by halves!

Same thing happened to a guy not far from where I live. Oxy acet lines leaking in his van, went to the shop, got back in his van, turned the ignition/or smoking at the time.
There was hardly a window left for 80yrds radius in the market place.
The van was non existant.
Poor sod.

possibly coz he was a dick and left gas leaking ?
or maybe it was in the sun and it blew off pressure in the car?

My mate offered me a free bottle of acetylene last year and I refused coz my useage didn't balance the risk of having it in my workshop. Admittedly the risk of it leaking or causing a problem is tiny - more of a risk of the workshop catching fire by a long way - but the consequences are not something I want to consider.

I think I posted this before. The guy went out to his Toyota Landcruiser (new 'old' styling one) and realised his acetylene was leaking so he pushed it out of the garage to vent. Then he decided to wind down the windows and it blew (electric motor sparked the explosion). He was inside but suffered only superficial burns and burst eardrums from memory. It was originally on Weldingweb.com I think.
