Axminster pillar drill

Anyone have experience with one of these? Worth bidding on ? The current bid is £50.

Semi-generic Chinese drill press. Look up new price as well as same item from Warco, Chester, Amadeal, Machine Mart, Sealey, etc.

If it was close to home, and I needed one, double the current bid would be my top value.

Just a couple of options either side of that one, either of which I would buy at their advertised price in preference to the Axminster one if logistics were not too bad:

overpiced when new from Axi.....as above nothing special, Chinese repainted any colour u want........
if u need it bad pay as above but £50 would be about right....

I have used one of those a few times. Slightly better than the generic Chinese drill, with an improved handle that does not bend or fall apart when pressure is applied. The table is also an improvement.

A "proper" branded drill would be much nicer to use if you could get one.

It was one of those tools that I was glad to see the back of, I was clearing out my workshop and someone made an offer for it and it went, glad to see it go. It was cheap to buy but not a nice machine to use. I now have a new workshop and replaced the drill. The drill I have is a pleasure to use, bought secondhand and in wonderful condition, hardly a mark on it, used by a model engineer who built miniature steam trains. It is a Meddings, a UK brand, weighs a ton a joy to use love it. It also came with a selection of drilling vices. Meddings are contactable on the phone which is great.

I bought one of those new from Axminster. It was awful. I returned it and bought a second hand Startrite in mint condition for £100. The Axminster drill had significant play in the quill, poor action on the rise and fall, an issue with the work light (can’t remember what) and just all over poor quality. It felt cheap and roughly made.

I've just sold one for £40. They are not the best, but they do the job.

I bought a very similar looking bit of Chinesium from Wickes a couple of years ago. They were £80 but were selling them off for £30 so I bought one just to do the occasional bit of work at a cottage in Wales. I was expecting it to be cheap and nasty. It was

The one in the auction is currently ~£500 from Axminster, and weights in at a beefy 80kg, it has got to be better than my old Aldi/Lidl one. However as I don't have a real need right now I'll only bid up to £70, which will be closer to £100 by the time all the fees are added on. So close to zero expectation that I will win the bid.

Don't buy it. It will be crap. It could be £1000 from axminster, a 40 year old startrite will still be better
