had the same , provided the i.d requested and no further issues , guess its down to money laundering , dont see a problem if youre not on the fiddle

If you pay someone by cheque they have all your bank details on it, similarity if they pay you, you have their details so what’s the issue giving name, sort code and account number. With on line banking you can see the funds arrive in practically real time. So that’s how I prefer to receive non cash ie not present payments.

Giving your bank details to others here is normal - the banks even give you paper and electronic slips (RIB - relève d’identitie bancaire) to give to people so they can pay you. I’ve been using them for 15 years without a problem.

Not on the fiddle, but seriously take offence to not being able to pay the courier through PayPal as they have blocked my account.

Just spent half an hour with some Moron in Bombay to sort it out. They supposedly are going to contact the person who bought the £450 item and apologise for the delay that they caused with their incompetence

FWIW, the demands for ID from PayPal are actually reasonable as they need to abide by KYC (Know Your Customer - aka know who they really are) and AML (Anti Money-Laundering) regulations.

The regs are being tightened up (well, may be more accurate to say that they were always "tight" but are now being followed up!) and it's likely that PayPal are applying this to all new accounts to avoid money-laundering audits, and will assume that someone with 15 years of payments has sufficient of a track record that they have already passed KYC and AML.

If you open up any new payment / transaction-processing account in the UK or the EU now then they should be applying KYC steps to validate your identity. I doubt this will be any different with any other supplier.

Just a potential explanation as to why PayPal may not be the bad guys here...

They have been doing the new account verification for as long as I can remember.
I'd be surprised if you didn't have to go through it when you set the first account up?

Although you might be using the same address/bank details as the first account they will be checking that it is actually you that has set this new account up rather than a scammed that's pulled some documents out of your bin. Not a bad thing I suppose?

For future reference, a simpler way to create multiple paypal Id's is to just add another email address to an existing account and give the buyers that for payment.

No use to defend against a paypal claim as its not in the t&c's of things they accept.

If someone is collecting an item and has a phone to pay using paypal then they should be able to do a bank transfer instead.
Or, if they have seen/inspected the item they should be happy to pay using paypal friends/family which protects you from a "not received" claim.

Supplied Id couple of days back. Account still on hold because they want proof of postage on the £450 item( that was sold since the request for my ID)

15 years ago when I opened the other account, they still knew who paid their salaries and had a good business model to provide a service and the money would follow. They have lost sight of that since.

Not happy about £450 in a pending account, but can understand that. Cannot accept account rendered totally inoperable by them wanting proof of postage but not letting me actual use their service to pay the courier with funds that have been cleared for weeks, or by using my bank or credit card

Most of all I don’t like have to go back to the guy that bought the goods in good faith and explain a situation that isn’t if my making. Their actions make me look like a con artist…

One downside to accepting low volume card payments is the card company is not likely to take your side if somebody claims rhe transaction is fraudulent.

If a buyer has driven 4hrs to collect an expensive welder and pays a private individual by card it's probably pretty easy for them to get the payment refunded if it's miles from where they live and the only regular transactions on the card are papers & coffees

why? for an easy life , go onto any of the parcel monkey /parcels2go /hermes type sites , pay and get it sent off today and its all fixed , you will be in for wait thinlking they will give in , and now maybe getting a back feedback for not sending it off in good time

I didn't know that. I gave up selling stuff online ages ago - just too much hassle.

I went through the same farce when I moved abroad, changed my Paypal address to the Philippines and bham! Account locked, and nobody in the PayPal world could unlock it.

I needed it urgently to pay for something a very nice lady had packed up for me in the US and delivered to my hotel while on crew change. I had promised her I'd pay by Paypal as soon as I got home.

I made several expensive phone calls back to the U.K. to see what was going on, and was also told they'd need copies of driving licence, passport, all of which I sent them, still no access, I wasn't allowed to send money. 'Sorry sit, your account was automatically locked for security. Eventually I paid the lady by alternative means, and deleted the Paypal and closed the bank account I'd been forces to link to it.

7 years later I needed Paypal to sell some air miles, about £1500 worth, so for a laugh I tried the old account, and it opened immediately, and it now worked, and I had the money sent to it.....
...... and they held onto the money for 21 days in case there was a dispute.
