On a mig welder..
After having the run-around yesterday hoping to buy a clark 151 off a joker on fb I've decided to bite the bullet and go new.
I've got around 300,want to patch up my vwt4.
Have a couple of buzz boxes that are good for thick stuff but need a mig for the van.
I'm leaning towards the clarke 151en,for ease of getting spares ect, but there are other clarke models around the same price mark which may be a better buy?
I want to play around with both gas and no gas, I have been youtubeing gasless and it seems a lot of the problems are caused with poor quality /wrong spec wire.
I have three regulators of the big bottles that I rescued from the scrap bin in a fab shop I worked in (did a bit of arc),nothing wrong with them, the boss said they needed upgrading for regs..
So I may be able to use one of them.
So really what I'm asking is clarke, which one, or maybe Sealey, Draper?
It's a bit of a minefield but I'm thinking rather than try to save 100 or so quid buying someone else's used stuff which may need putting right I'd be better taking that bit of mither out of the equation when trying to master the art.
I've done a fair bit of basic arc welding on 2mm,usually just vertical down butt welds on bifurcated fan pods, mild and stainless.
So I'm not a complete novice.
Just thought rather than pay someone to do it I'd spend on a tidy little welder, learn something and have some more kit to trip over.
I know it's a perennial question but any help appreciated.
Cheers.
