When a you could get a MIG instead?
That is exactly what i thought.Impresive
Well i know for a fact that my good mate who lives in County Carlow, Ireland deals with a guy who makes, repairs ally bulk carrying trucks does all his welding with mig. That is exactly what i thought.
I once argued with an engineer that a MIG wasnt as versatile as a TIG and he said "a MIG can do everything a TIG can do" I was doubtful, but now not so much.
Another engineer i talked to said that if he had a large amount of alu welding to do he went straight for the "big MIG" to do it.
Gmaw to a high standard is probably more difficult than tig to a basic standard fme but tig to a high standard IMO devotes more skill than gmaw. Good FC welders are skilled people especially when ploughing in a wide open root on to a tile in spray vertically up. But it can be picked up and qualified by a guy with some savvy fairly quickly. Hell im pretty handy with open root fcaw and I try to avoid a mig torch at all costs.Certainly easier to pick up the basics but personally i think MIG to a high standard is more difficult than TIG
If its a totally different process, why doesnt it have a different name?Don't forget this is synergic pulsed MIG which is a totally different process to standard MIG and bearing that in mind I have to say I thought the welds look dog rough
It does.If its a totally different process, why doesnt it have a different name?
Also, what does a good MIG alu weld look like?
Also, what does a good MIG alu weld look like?
"Ive got some alu welding to do."It does.
Mig/mag or pulsed Mig/mag.
They are very different process
Well nearly. With Alu it will either be Mig or pulsed Mig."Ive got some alu welding to do."
"What you going to do it with?"
"Ill just do it with the MIG."
"Will that be with the Mig/mag or pulsed Mig/mag?"
As Richard says it does, Pulsed MIG and the welds deposited can look similar to TIG welds when done right, the welds in the video look cold, inconsistent and one even had a crater crack in it.If its a totally different process, why doesnt it have a different name?

Throw a double pulse in the background and that's on another level again. As Richard says it does, Pulsed MIG and the welds deposited can look similar to TIG welds when done right, the welds in the video look cold, inconsistent and one even had a crater crack in it.
