Thirty plus years ago I was taught the basics of “stick” welding as an apprentice. Haven't used it much since.
Mrs 1st Ade has now indicated some jobs she’s like doing in the garden. A mate lent me his MIG welder for a play and, whilst it’s obviously going to cost more in the short term to buy a welder than to replace the patio furniture it’ll be much more fun! However, technology has moved on so some probably stupid questions coming. I've a garage with space, power and no draughts: -

- Inverter / transformer? Views on this forum seem mixed. One firm will advertise “Tried and trusted transformer technology, much more reliable” another “reliable invertor, infinite control”?
- Initially looking at fixing garden furniture (hollow steel tube , 2-3 mm wall in round or box section), Hanging Baskets (steel bar, say 2 x 10 or 2 x 15 mm) and rabbit cages (1mm wire mesh – lots of it!) what sort of current range should I be looking at?
- I happen to drive past R-Tech’s site once or twice a month. I wouldn’t want to pick a manufacturer solely on convenience but being able to go back and say “This doesn’t work” or “How do I…” has its benefits.
