Hello folks,
I'm very new to the forum and having had a cursory look around I feel there is a great forum here, with many helpful people. Thank you, so far.
A bit of background. I done an evening class course on arc welding some years ago and learnt the basic techniques over the six week course. For some reason I never got myself a welder but have now put that right. I have ordered a generic inverter arc welder 200 amp. and hope to take delivery in a week or so. I've learned already from this forum, I won't be able to use it on a household circuit beyond 140 amps but that is fine as I have bought it at a rather bargain price assuming the thing works as it should.
My next buy will be a half decent automatic darkening mask and it is here I need some advice. I have set my eye on a SIP Meteor 2300 or the 2300F model. Now somewhere along the line I have read some fantastic reviews for this welding helmet and ideally suited to beginners/amateurs but equally, elsewhere, some say don't touch them because of the poor headband. Tool Station are presently selling them for £36 odd which appears a bargain as some are asking up to £80 for the same headset. Perhaps someone here knows where they are even cheaper?
My participation, in welding, will be pure hobbyist, perhaps involving some small creative, artwork, projects.
Has anyone here got the Meteor helmet? Would you recommend it to a newbie as myself?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
Joseph
