ive thrown many spade bits in the bin as they tend to bend easily
the 3 bladers are much better than the others however mine do pull in themselves and you can control them a little bit better compared to the auger bits
Thanks everyone, in the end I welded a guide rod to a 14mm auger,decided that was to big a diameter at 14mm so proceeded to grind the flutes down to give me 12mm, picture shows before it was ground down,anyways tried it and countersunk about 1 1/2" depth and reset the cast on the stock, the extra width in the hole allowed the wood to be "bent " over to give a bit more cast before it touched the retaining bolt, I also ground the washer underneath the bolt head to allow for the now slightly angled pull and elongated the hole to allow for the bolt to stay straight whilst the stock is cast .
