I have come across a 250a MIG (s/h, £400 Snap On 1ph) which I'm considering asking the boss to invest in to save time over using stick.
Question is, what will it weld? I'm aware that too small a machine gives a cold weld on thick stuff, but also that really big machines are also as much to do with duty cycle as actual amps.
Multiple runs and duty cycle aren't all that important to me, I just need to know what thickness it will give reliable penetration on?
No jobs which require testing/certificate rubbish, but safety and reliability of my welds can still be crucial.
