@slim_boy_fat , please could I have second dibs (at a fair price of course) if Richard doesn't want it. Excellent bit of kit that.

Bill, I believe that the thing you are missing is that the dead centre does not fit the centre hole in the work exactly only at the tip. This allows movement at the far end of the work but still centres the work axially at the headstock end. IF more movement is required then a ball bearing instead of a centre can be used, it allows more movement but doesn't hold the work centrally as well as a centre. Off setting the live (or greased dead) tailstock centre across the axis of the lathe will then allow the normal saddle movement to produce a taper on the work. Off course the work needs to be driven and that is what the dog does.
This method will allow MT tapers to be cut but not anything to short.

Yes please mate.@Richard. I have what I believe to be most of a genuine Myford taper turning attachment which came with my Tri-Leva, if it's of any interest to you - I can't see me ever using it. If you're interested I'm sure we could arrive at a mutually acceptable price. It'd probably need some bits making to allow fixing to the bed etc, but nothing outwith the capabilities of a man such as yourself.
It's like this one [Google search image, but I can post up pics of my one when I'm in the shed next], but painted in Myford grey to match the lathe
Yes please mate.
It will be fine I'm sureOK, I'll take some pics and get them to you - hope we'd not be breaking any forum rules by dealing direct, wouldn't want to fall foul of the Mods?
If it can't be made to work with the ml10 I'll see you get it for what it cost me
People often make a slotted attachment for the tailstock. Basically just a center that can be offset.Take a four jaw chuck and fit it to the tailstock, then use that to hold the centre. Simply set it off centre with the chuck then it can be removed when finished.
Good idea?
