I've been having my first go at welding some 20x40x2mm stainless box section. I have mitred corner joints which I spent time on getting nice and square with good fit up. The fusion welds look ok as I'm getting some nice colours, so I think my settings are good, but the joints are pulling out of square. I'm welding the flat parts of the joint from the outside corner inwards. Is that the right way to do it?
I've got everything clamped down. Maybe I'm taking the clamps off too soon? How long should I let it cool before removing the clamps?
Would it be better to make the joints out of square and allow them to move a bit? They always seem to contract so that the internal angle is less than 90 degrees. I'm getting about 5mm of deflection over 800mm.
Thanks in advance
