I was making up some basic frames in 50x50x5 mild steel angle with mitred joints. First frame was welded with the mig & no problems. I decided to break out the inverter & stick weld the next frame just for practice.
All went well with perfect beads on the outside weld. The problems occurred when welding the inside corner where all 3 edges meet - I couldn't get a clean weld. I was trying to start in the corner & weld out but that wasn't working. Whats the best way to do this - start on the outside & weld in? But this means that the rod is vertical when it gets to the corner. I did try running a short bead across the corner, chipping off & starting my main bead from that, which worked better.
Apologies if this has been covered before.
I was using Bohler Fox OHV 6013 3.2mm rods on DC electrode -ve at 120-140a
